During this time of covid, we have one service at 9:30. Pews are set up for distancing and masks are required.
Whoever you are, and however you found your way here, you are welcome. If you wonder "Is there a place for me here?" the answer is YES!
We are Anglo-American, African-American, African, European, Asian; we are Indigenous and immigrant; we are first-generation and many-generational. We are male, female, and non-binary; we are straight, gay, trans, bi-, queer and non-conforming. We are young, old, middle-aged and youthful. We are conservative and liberal and everything in between. We have blond hair, brown hair, black hair, gray hair, white hair, and no hair at all! Our "dress code" is simple--please remember to wear some clothes.
What to Expect
Our main Sunday morning services are at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. Both services are normally Holy Eucharist (also called the Lord's Supper, or the Mass) and include readings from the Bible, a sermon, prayers, and the sharing of bread and wine in Holy Communion. The 8:30 service is mostly spoken; the 11:00 service includes instrumental music, congregational singing, and the ministries of the St. Michael's choirs.
During the service, you may notice people bowing, crossing themselves, and standing up and sitting down at various moments. Apart from a few general guidelines, much of this is up to the individual participants. The best way to learn the rhythms of the service is simply to watch the people around you and follow along. You will notice that no two people do exactly the same thing! There really is no “wrong” way. Although many people find this a bit intimidating at first, they often fall in love with the reverence of our way of worship.
A Note To Parents and Grandparents If you have small children with you, please relax, enjoy the flow of the service, and let them be themselves. The sound of young voices in worship (even making up the words!) is the sound of energy and life, and it’s a sound we love and cherish. On the other hand, if your little ones would be more at ease in the nursery, trained and certified adult attendants are on duty from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday mornings in the nursery, located in the Education Building, through the courtyard door on your right as you exit the church.
