Wednesday, August 16
On Sunday August 20th at 9:30am, the regular Christian Education time, Wallis Ohl will lead a seminar on hospitality and welcoming based on Scripture, history and the experience of multitudes of other congregations who have worked to make welcoming the guest in our midst a priority. It would be wonderful if we were to have 100 people participate in this instructional time, because hospitality is, in fact, a lynchpin of the Christian faith.
St. Cecilia Guild Meeting
The St. Cecilia Guild will meet on August 20th following the 11:00 o’clock service. The Pansy Sale, Ice Cream Social, and Lessons and Carols will be discussed.
St. Michael’s will be offering a ministry of Feast Groups: 6-8 individuals to gather for a meal at the home of one of the members. Normally in such groups the host provides the entrée and the other members of that group provide appetizers, salad, vegetables and dessert. As a rule, each group stays together for 4-5 months to offer the opportunity for each individual or couple to host a gathering. The intention of such groups is to get to know one another better as we share in conversation, and, of course, the meal.
Beginning August 6, a sign-up sheet will be available in the Gathering Space for anyone who would like to participate to indicate their desire to do so. By the end of the month groups will be formed and the first host designated. Then during Epiphany, the groups will shuffle with new groupings formed.
Wise Women Luncheon
All women in the church are invited to our next Wise Women luncheon on Saturday, August 19th, at 11:30 AM. Sue Harrington will be hosting the luncheon in the in-gathering space at the church, and any volunteers who would like to help with setup beforehand or cleanup would be appreciated. If you are able to bring a dish to share, we will all enjoy it; but if not, please still join us for the fellowship and lunch. Please contact Sherry Sparks, 405-823-6020, with any questions.
St Cecilia Guild Pansy Sale
This year the St. Cecilia Guild will again be having a pansy sale fundraiser to support music-related activities at St. Michael's. We will start taking orders on August 13th so we can place our order with our supplier “The Greenhouse” by mid-September. We plan to have the pansies available for pickup the last weekend in September to coincide with our St. Michael's patronal celebration. We don't anticipate there will be any change in pricing or availability. Cost has been $20 for flats of eighteen 3” pots.
August Book Sale
Books for the August book sale are being collected! You can place them in the tub in the coat closet by the front door or in the tubs in the choir room. We also collect LPs, DVDs, and tapes for the sale! A sign up sheet for helping with the sale is in the In-gathering Space.
SOAR (Singles Outreach and Resource)
